Help Out Our Classroom!!

I have recently written a post on a website called Donors Choose. This website helps educators raise funds for projects and materials in their classrooms. My post is all about helping the students have more spaces for the flexible seating that we have started. Please share this link and help us to get some more comfortable seating options for our classroom.

Thank you for all that you already do and I am looking forward to another fun week in kindergarten!

Labeling EVERYTHING including Mrs. Baied!

Today we learned all about how to label pictures. We started off by making an anchor chart and labeling a scene of a house; the kiddos did a really good job!

They even spelled the words out-loud using phonetic spelling (writing the letters of the sounds you hear, not proper spelling). This type of spelling is EXACTLY what I want your kiddos to be working on.

After they helped me label the house, they labeled ME!! I wrote the words on sticky notes and they labeled places on me such as my hair, my arm, my leg, my boot, my shirt, my necklace, my neck, my nose, etc.

They had so much fun and were full of giggles!!

The last job that they completed was labeling a boy on a piece of paper, they did a pretty good job with the labeling after we worked through some of it together.

It was so much fun watching them begin to write!!! I cannot wait to do more!

Dance, Dance, Dance!!!

MCPS has been awarded with a grant to incorporate dance into our classrooms, today we had Ms. Kaitlin who is a professional dancer come in and teach us a dance lesson. Ms. Kaitlin did a warm up with us and then taught about the plant life cycle through dance!

Ask your child if they can show you the dance. Enjoy the pictures below :)

See you all tomorrow or Thursday for conferences!

Conferences

As conferences are right around the corner, I wanted to let all families know to be on the lookout for a few important documents that will come home with kinders in the next few days.

Report Card Information:  this document outlines the report card and explains what each "grade" means.  Please review this thoroughly as we will be discussing your child's grades for the majority of our time together.

Conference Reminder:  a reminder will be coming home with your conference appointment date and time.  Sometimes conferences run a little longer than the 15 minutes allotted, and sometimes they are shorter!  Please keep that in mind and arrive promptly for your time slot.

I cannot wait to see you at your Parent-Teacher Conference appointment, it is always fantastic to get a chance to chat one-on-one!  As this is an important time for adults to connect and communicate, please make other arrangements for kiddos if possible.

Mrs. Baied

Hooray!! 50th Day

Hip Hip Hooray! We made it to the 50th day of K!!!!

Today was the 50th day of kindergarten and we had a lot of fun celebrating! We began our day by taking pictures in the 50th day frame, coloring a Rockin' 50's Picture and making a hat with 50 Q-tip paint dots. :)

We ended our day by enjoying root beer floats while learning if ice cream floats or sinks!

Ask your child if the ice cream floated or sunk to the bottom....

I hope your kiddo has enjoyed these 50 days in kindergarten as much as I have and I cannot wait to celebrate the 100th day!

Halloween!

Halloween was a very successful day in Kindergarten! The kiddos looked wonderful in their costumes and had great behavior for the day being so different and filled with excitement. We started our day drawing ourselves in our costumes and taking pictures, we had reading groups and then listened to Officer Lloyd teach us about being safe on Halloween along with being safe every day of our lives. It was a great presentation and the students learned a lot, I hope that everyone was extra safe on Halloween but had a great time. During the afternoon we watched a Halloween video and had a party!
Thank you to the parents and families that joined us for the party and thanks to everyone who sent in treats! The kiddos enjoyed cheese sticks, skeleton bone Cheetos, apples, fruit snacks and a ring pop! We played Happy Halloween Bingo and had a dance party! Everyone had a great time. That was just the beginning of the fun, after music and recess the students participated in a school-wide parade followed by a dance party in the gym! The dance party was so much fun! We danced to two Halloween songs including Thriller and Mo
nster Mash! Did your kiddo enjoy the day??

Enjoy the pictures!

Parents, please keep your eye on your child's folder for information regarding Parent/Teacher conferences, I look forward to meeting with you and discussing how great kindergarten has been going so far!
