Friday Fun Day

Today we completed our first science experiment and it was a hit!!

I was so proud of the students and how hard they worked.

They made a prediction about what would happen to the apple, competed the experiment, then wrote about what happened!

The experiment was to see if the apple would sink or float......ask your child what happened!

They were giving me a thumbs up if they believed it would float and a thumbs down if it would sink.

We made a poster and voted as a class, most of them believed that the apple would float!!
The apples floated!!!

Today we had our celebrity reader....today's reader was Roke's dad! The kiddos loved the story he read, Fox In Socks! It was fun for him to come into our classroom and see the kiddos :) Thank you for coming!!

We also played an apple math game, ask your child about it! It is a hit in our classroom and the kiddos will play next week on their own during center time!

Enjoy your three day weekend and please fill out the paperwork in your child''s folder. The papers have to be signed and returned for our field trips :)

Apple Tasting

We talked about apples.....we tasted apples....we colored apples....we graphed about which apple we liked best!

Fire Drill...Success :)

Today we had our first fire drill and the kiddos did WONDERFUL!

They love making alphabet hats!!!

We talked about fire drills this morning and how we have to practice just in case there is a real fire. We also talked about lock downs and what we do if there is someone who is not safe in our school. The students all listened very well and asked a few questions. I expressed to them that we do not talk about these things because we want to scare them but because we have to practice in case there is a real emergency. I am very impressed with how well they did and they earned 2 minutes of extra recess because of it!!

Please talk about lock-downs and fire drills with your child at home, if you have any questions please contact me. Thank you!

Love, Mrs. Baied

Today we learned all about the letter R and met our zoo-friend Robby Rabbit! We made a chart with words that begin with r and we had to stop because they knew so many. They made a very cool robot hat but some kiddos decided not to make a hat and just to make the robot!

Tomorrow is all about S!!!!

Ask your kiddo...
Where did you go for the fire drill?
What is a word that begins with s?
What sound does R make?

After checking in with the kindergarteners this morning and reading the notes left by the substitute, I found that the class had a great day with the guest teacher!  I am so proud of their success (and not surprised! I knew they would do well!).  We earned some extra recess time because of their awesome behavior!!! Please give your child an extra high five for being such an amazing student.

We will look forward to our next guest teacher on Wednesday, September 30th.

Apple Week

This week in kindergarten is all about apples!

We started today with a name project....check out how awesome they turned out!
The kiddos worked very hard on their names and did a great job...ask your child how many letters are in their name :)

We also talked about how we treat a guest teacher in our classroom.
We created a class promise altogether...the students came up with all of these ideas plus a few more on how they promise to treat the substitute teacher :)

I will be gone tomorrow at a school directed meeting. I will also be gone on Wednesday from 10:30-1:15 with a school directed meeting. Every 3 weeks I will be gone at that time on a Wednesday to work on data collection and work on items with my kindergarten team. I am not worried because I know my kindergarten friends are going to have awesome behavior and earn rewards from me because they are so wonderful!!

Happy Apple Week!!
It's a fun one in kindergarten!

What an EXCITING Friday!!!

Today was a very exciting day in Kindergarten!!

We began our day by making hats for the letter N, we made a Nest Hat! The kiddos came up with some great words that begin with the n sound including Nicole, Niko, nut, Nana, night, nickel and more. I am so happy with how well they are doing in our ABC Bootcamp!
After lunch and recharge time it was time for our Celebrity Reader!
Today our Celebrity Reader even surprised Mrs. Baied! I was planning on my mom but  instead my brother came with his wife and two kids. The students were so excited!!! He read The Recess Queen to us and the kiddos earned some extra play time after because they were good listeners!
No one guessed that our celebrity reader would be Mrs. Baied's brother!!!!
Listening to the story. My brother, Bobby is reading while my mom listens and Tess (my sister in law) and Hudson (my nephew) listen also :) Landon (my other nephew) was checking out all of the toys!

Thank you for coming to read to us Mr. Bobby! We loved it :)

Get some rest this weekend! Next week is a busy week in kindergarten; we will be learning all about apples! Mrs. Baied will be gone Tuesday for a district meeting day and Wednesday for 3 hours for another district directed meeting. I will give the children a heads-up but please do the same and do not be surprised to see Ms. Sydney greeting the students on Wednesday morning!

Centers, Art & More

Hello Friends & Families -

Today we had our first art lesson. Every month Mrs. Swanson will come to our classroom and complete an art project with us. Today we made owls using watercolor paint, pastels and other materials. It is so much fun when she comes because we use materials that we do not use in the classroom very often. Take a look at the owls and be on the lookout for them to come home with your student in the future. Mrs. Swanson will be back in October and the students are already counting down!

Which owl is yours?!?!

We began centers this week which was very exciting! After our afternoon recess every day we come in and eat snack (a fruit or vegetable provided by the school) and then get to work. Each day your student has a 'Must Do' job, these centers include word work, reading, math and technology.

Word work this week was matching clothes pin letters to their name card and friends cards.

Math this week was counting the letters in their name and writing it; then playing with pattern blocks.

Technology this week was playing math games on the ipad.

Reading this week was using magnetic letters and putting the alphabet in order.

Once the kiddos finish their 'Must Do' job they can pick a 'Can Do' job which includes housekeeping, art, exploring, sensory table and tub toys. These are more of unstructured play activities.

They did a great job this week with their centers and I cannot wait to continue to come up with activities that reinforce the skills we are learning. It is so fun to watch them interact with each other during the 'Can Do' time and watch them pick different activities with different friends each day.

Ask your child which centers they did this week (no centers on Thursday early out day!)

Garden!

Today was our first trip to the garden. We met Farmer Amy and Farmer Katie! It was so much fun....we did a color scavenger hunt thru the garden, tasted some veggies and made a veggie/fruit face on a tortilla! We had a great time and cannot wait until we get the chance to go back.

Ask your kiddo...
Did you like the vegetables your tried?
What did you see in the garden?
Who are the farmers that taught you in the garden?
Can you tell me one rule about the garden?
What are your five senses?

Learning about our
5 senses and the garden rules!

My kindergarten friends had WONDERFUL listening ears and bodies in the garden. They earned 4 fuzzies for their awesome behavior!

Celebrity Reader & The End of Pete the Cat Week

Today we welcomed our first celebrity reader....the students made guesses this morning of who it would be....their guesses included Mrs. B, Mrs. Baied, Mr. Bessette, Mr. Hunt, Thatcher's dad, Hayden's brother and the lady with the curly hair.........

It ended up being the lady with the curly hair....MRS. NAVE!!!!

Mrs. Nave read to us and we enjoyed every minute of it, it was so much fun to have her in our classroom!!!

The students are already excited to see who our celebrity reader will be next week :)

If you sent back your form with information about being a celebrity reader I will be contacting you to set up a date and time. I will plan two weeks in advance and next week we already have someone...my mom but SHHH don't tell your kiddo!

CELEBRATE!!!

The students filled their 'warm fuzzies' jar!! The warm fuzzy jar is a jar that is used to put cotton balls (warm fuzies) in when the students earn compliments from other school staff including specials, lunch room and recess. The students can also earn them from me in the classroom! We started the jar last Monday and they have already filled out....AWESOME JOB MONKEYS!!! Tomorrow during rest time we will watch a short PBSkids video as their reward.

Lots of Catching Up.....

First of all, I apologize for my week long hiatus from blogging! I am getting back into the swing of things with school starting so will try my best to blog every other day :)

We have had a busy few days learning about more letters in the alphabet, meeting zoo friends (beanie babies that go along with each letter of the alphabet), writing our names, playing games, and so much more! I will let the pictures do the talking for the past week!

The students are playing with math tools in the following pictures, soon we will use them as math tools but for now they are playing :)

Ask your child who they played with during math today!

We have played with red/yellow circles, cubes and ten sticks.

E if Elephant!!!

We LOVE brain breaks!!! Ask your child what their favorite is!

I am thinking about going 'paperless' and keeping the blog up only instead of blogging and sending a newsletter, if you would like me to continue sending the newsletter please send a note in your child's monkey folder!
