Today we had our first art lesson. Every month Mrs. Swanson will come to our classroom and complete an art project with us. Today we made owls using watercolor paint, pastels and other materials. It is so much fun when she comes because we use materials that we do not use in the classroom very often. Take a look at the owls and be on the lookout for them to come home with your student in the future. Mrs. Swanson will be back in October and the students are already counting down!
Which owl is yours?!?!
We began centers this week which was very exciting! After our afternoon recess every day we come in and eat snack (a fruit or vegetable provided by the school) and then get to work. Each day your student has a 'Must Do' job, these centers include word work, reading, math and technology.
Word work this week was matching clothes pin letters to their name card and friends cards.
Math this week was counting the letters in their name and writing it; then playing with pattern blocks.
Technology this week was playing math games on the ipad.
Reading this week was using magnetic letters and putting the alphabet in order.
Once the kiddos finish their 'Must Do' job they can pick a 'Can Do' job which includes housekeeping, art, exploring, sensory table and tub toys. These are more of unstructured play activities.
They did a great job this week with their centers and I cannot wait to continue to come up with activities that reinforce the skills we are learning. It is so fun to watch them interact with each other during the 'Can Do' time and watch them pick different activities with different friends each day.
Ask your child which centers they did this week (no centers on Thursday early out day!)
These posts are great! My son was talking about "Must Do" activities, but he couldn't quite explain it. We love reading these as a family in the evening and talking about what happened during the day. Thanks so much!
