Science!!!

Hello Families!!!

Happy almost February!!! I wanted to share the excitement that has been happening in our classroom the past few weeks. We have been working on our S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology. Engineering. & Math.).

This week we read Jack and the Beanstalk and discussed engineers, structure and function. The students then had the opportunity to build their own beanstalk; the only directions they were given was to try to build the tallest beanstalk with 10 pipe cleaners. It was so fun to watch their brains work and hear them interact with each other!  Enjoy the photos!!!

We will be starting with another special art in February, the Clay Studio will be coming to our classroom to teach. I cannot wait to see the creations that the students make!

Dance Dance Dance

Today Ms. Kaitlin came for dance!!! The kiddos were very excited and learned all about weather, without even realizing that they were learning :)

Enjoy the pictures! The dance represented the following types of weather: rainy, snowy, cloudy and sunny. Ask your child if they can show you the movements for the dance.

We will see Ms. Kaitlin one more time next week and then our time with her is over :( But we will be starting to work with the Clay Studio in February to integrate art more into our classroom!!!!

Writing

We have started writing, putting pencil to paper and writing about our opinions! We started the week with writing about our favorite color, talked about using the word because to support our opinions and played a game yesterday expressing our opinions by stepping on the line! The students are loving being able to share their thoughts and I look forward to continuing to watch them grow each day with their writing skills.

Ask your kiddo what their favorite color is, but be sure to have them support their opinion by using because.

Happy 2016

We are beginning to get back into the swing of things again here in kindergarten! The kiddos have grown so much over the holiday break, I am always shocked at the change! We have had some fun over the last couple of days and I am looking forward to continuing throughout the rest of the year. It was great to hear about everyone's break, it sounded like a lot of fun was had! The kids were very interested in what I did and where I went; I used this as an opportunity to show them the globe and talk about the world!

Today we started Project Lead the Way which is part of the STEM (Science, Education, Technology, Math) program. They LOVED it!! Today we talked about engineers, structure and function. Ask your child if they can tell you what an engineer is. Ask them to tell you what structure and function are. They did a great job discussing the function of different things in our classroom. We will continue to complete lessons from this curriculum every week. Let's keep the excitement alive so talk to your kiddos about it!
