Brush Your Teeth...Brush Your Teeth

Brush, brush, brush your teeth!!!!
Today we had a special dental health presentation from The Dentist of the Rockies. We learned all about brushing, flossing and healthy foods for our teeth. Some of our friends were picked to dress up as teeth and be the examples for the tooth brush activity.

Ask your child:
How long should you brush your teeth?
How many times a day should you brush?
What is one type of food that is good for your teeth?
What do we put on our tooth brush when we brush?

Don't forget about Read Across America week next week!! See you in your red on Monday :)

A large piece of our STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) curriculum  focuses on how the design process and how to be an engineer. Today we talked about the design process for a paint brush, as well as its structure and function. After we talked as a whole group the students were given supplies including feathers, pom poms, Popsicle sticks, tape, and string and told to turn them into a paint brush. It was very interesting to watch the students make a paint brush. It took about 25 minutes for them to build their brushes and then the real test happened. The kiddos had to see if they could paint a picture with their brushes, most of them came out great! They are bringing their brushes home today and will bring home their paintings tomorrow (after they dry).

Today we also had Ms. Crista come from the Clay Studio. She is a teacher that is coming to integrate art into our classroom and she taught us how to use clay. The students played with the clay, made a pinch pot and then created whatever they wanted. It was so fun to watch their imaginations! They will be doing a few more projects with her and will bring all of them home when we are completely finished with the curriculum.

The Big Bad Wolf & A Monster Invasion

This week we finished up our houses for the 3 little pigs, we used a teddy bear. The students were put in pairs and given materials to build a house. The materials were popsicle sticks, toothpicks & sponges, and clay. Each group had glue to keep their house together. They worked together to create a house that was strong enough that the Big Bad Wolf  could not get in (the wind!). We tested the houses today and learned that the clay house was the strongest! It was awesome listening and watching the students work together to create the houses.

Our classroom has been invaded by monsters, behavior monsters! I have started using an application called Class Dojo, each student has a monster and can earn points for positive behaviors throughout the day. They can also get points taken away for unsafe behavior (I hope to not be taking many points away).  At the end of each day we will see who has the most points, that student will be able to choose a new monster for the next day. Ask your child  about their monster.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Valentine

This is a reminder that kinder kiddos need to bring 19 valentines for the class by Friday, 02/12 (if they would like to pass them out).  Students can sign their name in the "From:" space but should leave the "To:" space blank (unless they have already written names).  This allows kinders to independently pass out valentines to their friends.

We will be passing Valentines out in the morning, celebrating by completing Valentine themed centers with our buddies in the afternoon and ending our day with a school wide dance party! If your child has red or pink, encourage them to wear it to school. I am looking forward to another fun celebration with the kiddos.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call or email me as soon as possible.

101 Dalmations for the 101st day of school

We celebrated the 101st day of school with a 101 Dalmation themed day! We played 101 dalmation games in math, made dalmation crowns and even watched the movie with all of the other kindergarteners! It was another awesome day...looking forward to the next 79 days!!!
                                                                             - Love Mrs. Baied
We LOVE kindergarten...Happy 101st Day to All!!!!

HiP, HiP, HoOrAy....We MaDe It To ThE 100tH DaY Of KiNdErGarTeN!!!

Can you believe we only have 80 days of K left?!?! Where has the time gone?

We celebrated the 100th day and boy did we have some fun!!!

Some of our exciting activities including making a 100th day crown (I apologize for all of the crowns to the parents, but the kiddos love them!!), coloring pages, counting to 100 many times, dancing while counting, building with 100 pattern blocks, building with 100 cups, creating with 100 legos, building with 100 unifix cubes, and exercising for 100 seconds!

The kiddos worked together at their centers and my favorite one was the cup building, they were given 100 cups and told to do whatever they wanted. There were a lot of creative ideas but one group tried to build a TALL tower and they did it!! It fell down on them a few different times but they started telling each other to never give up and then they got it! I love watching them learn and grow together and the 100th day was one I will never forget!

Another one of my favorite activities was the Hershey Kiss scavenger hunt. I hid 100 kisses around the room with the numbers 1-100 on the bottom, they had to find the kisses and match them to the number on the carpet; they did it and helped each other out quite a bit on this one!

Look at the friedships that have developed, these pictures of the boys and girls together make me smile :) I love watching their friendships grow!

We tried to take a selfie, but my arms are not long enough!!!!!

Ask your kiddo:
Can you count to 100 by one's?
Can you count to 100 by ten's?
What was your favorite 100 second center today?
What was your favorite part of the snack?
